Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)

A progressive liver disease related to the metabolic syndrome, obesity, and diabetes.


An inflammation of the liver that resembles alcoholic liver disease, but is not caused by alcohol. It may occur in a person with fatty liver, cirrhosis, and other forms of hepatitis. Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) may be the most common liver disorder in the United States.
