Operating theatre

A special room in a hospital, where surgical operations are carried out.

A designated space where surgical operations take place is known as an operating theatre. It’s typically part of a series of rooms, connected to an anesthesia room and a post-surgery recovery zone. A continuous supply of clean, filtered air from the ventilation system and easily cleanable surfaces minimize the risk of infection in open wounds during the procedure. Before donning sterile gowns and gloves, surgeons, assistants, and nurses meticulously clean their hands and forearms using sterile brushes and antibacterial soaps.

The operating theatre is equipped with various tools, such as unobstructed operating lights, devices for displaying X-ray images or scans, anaesthetic equipment, and a diathermy machine for managing bleeding. There might also be a heart-lung machine available.
