Oral rehydration solution

A liquid given as a drink to correct the water, mineral and nutritional deficiencies in a person who is affected by dehydration.

A solution used to prevent or correct dehydration due to diarrheal illnesses. The World Health Organization recommends that the solution contain 3.5 g sodium chloride; 2.9 g potassium chloride; 2.9 g trisodium citrate; and 1.5 g glucose dissolved in each liter (approx. 1 qt) of drinking water.

A liquid formulation devised by the World Health Organization (WHO) serves as an effective remedy to reduce fluid depletion in individuals afflicted with diarrhea. Initially designed to be prepared using readily available household ingredients, commercial variations of this preparation have emerged in recent times. This innovative solution, formulated under the WHO’s guidance, offers a convenient means to combat dehydration by replenishing vital fluids and electrolytes lost during episodes of diarrhea.
