The operation of mobilizing an undescended testis in the groin and fixing it in the scrotum. The operation should be performed well before puberty to allow the testis every chance of normal development.
When testes do not descend into the scrotum, normally in young children, an operation is performed to correct this. This is called surgical orchidopexy. The main reason is probably cosmetic; however, a testis which has descended is less likely to become cancerous than one which has not. Treatment may not improve future fertility.
A procedure carried out to lower an undescended testicle into the scrotum is known as orchidopexy. This intervention is typically conducted in boys before the age of two to mitigate the potential for future infertility or the development of testicular cancer.
