Osteodystrophy

Defect in bone development, usually due to renal disease or disturbances in phosphorus and calcium metabolism.

The general term for any defective bone formation.

Any generalized bone disease resulting from a metabolic disorder. Renal osteodystrophy is the characteristic change in bones occurring in chronic kidney failure.

Any widespread bone irregularity stemming from metabolic disorders is referred to as osteodystrophy. Varieties of osteodystrophy encompass rickets, osteomalacia, as well as bone cysts and diminished bone mass linked to chronic kidney failure or hyperparathyroidism (excessive parathyroid gland activity). Among adults, osteodystrophy is often reversible when the underlying cause is addressed before any bone deformation transpires.
