Otoplasty

The surgical procedure for restructuring the shape of the ear.

Plastic surgery of the external ear to repair damage or deformity.

The surgical procedure performed to reconstruct or repair an ear that is damaged or missing, a kind of plastic surgery, or to flatten protruding ears, as a kind of cosmetic surgery.

Surgical correction of deformities of the external ear.

A cosmetic or reconstructive surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the outer ear. An otoplasty is usually done to flatten protruding ears; the surgery is known as pinning back the ears. The procedure is also used to reduce the size of overly large ears or, in the case of ears that have been damaged because of a severe injury or birth defect, to build a new outer ear. Abnormalities of ear shape, such as lop ears (the tip bends forward and down) or shell ears (the natural folds and creases of the outer ear are lacking), can also be repaired.

Surgical repair or reconstruction of the ears after injury or in the correction of a congenital defect (such as bat ears).

Surgical procedures performed on the outer ear primarily for aesthetic purposes, often done to reposition prominent ears closer to the head. Otoplasty can also involve creating an absent ear in a child born with partial or complete absence of one ear, or restoring a damaged ear.
