Outcome

What happens as the result of something.

A measure of the result of an intervention or treatment, e.g. the mortality rate following different methods of surgery.

A term used very loosely, particularly in evaluating patient care and the health care system and its components. When used for populations or the health care system, it typically refers to changes in birth or death rates, or some similar global measure. In contrast, it may refer to the “outcome” (finding) of a given diagnostic procedure. It may also refer to cure of the patient, restoration of function, or extension of life, sometimes with an attempt to introduce into the calculation some quantification of the quality of life.

A result or consequence (e.g., of a disease, an interpersonal interaction, a chemical reaction, drug, or operation).
