Oxyhemoglobin

A compound formed by the union of oxygen with hemoglobin.

Complex of hemoglobin and oxygen that is the form in which oxygen is transported from the lungs to the cells of the body.

Oxygen molecules combine with the hemoglobin in red blood cells in the blood to form the compound oxyhemoglobin, transporting oxygen in the blood.

The bright red substance formed when the pigment hemoglobin in red blood cells combines reversibly with oxygen. Oxyhemoglobin is the form in which oxygen is transported from the lungs to the tissues, where the oxygen is released.

That hemoglobin that is reversibly bound to oxygen. Hemoglobin is oxygenated as blood passes through capillaries in the lungs. It is circulated to body tissues by the muscular contraction of the heart. In the tissues oxygen unbinds from hemoglobin and is used for cellular respiration.

Oxygen binds with hemoglobin in red blood cells. This bond gives arterial blood its vibrant red hue, in contrast to the darker shade of venous blood where the hemoglobin has less oxygen.
