  • Scirrhoma

    A hard carcinoma, i.e., one with tough or dense connective tissue within it.  

  • Scintiscanner

    The device used in doing a scintiscan. An instrument crafted to chart the dissemination of radioactivity within a living organism.  

  • Scintiphotography

    Making images from radioactive emissions, for example, from radioisotopes injected into the body to determine the health or disease of body structures and functions.  

  • Scintillation

    A subjective sensation, as of seeing sparks. An ephemeral illumination, manifested optically, emerges within a phosphor crystal as a consequence of the ionization caused by a particle or photon.  

  • Scimitar syndrome

    A rare congenital malformation of the heart and lungs, marked by dextroposition of the heart, a malformed right lung, abnormal connections between the right pulmonary veins and the inferior vena cava, and abnormal pulmonary arterial connections to the right lung.  

  • Scieropia

    Abnormal vision in which things appear to be in a shadow.  

  • Science of unitary human beings

    A conceptual model of nursing developed by Martha Rogers. The human being and the environment are conceived of as being unitary, patterned, open, and pandimensional energy fields. The goal of nursing is to promote human betterment wherever people are.  

  • Science citations index

    An electronic database of scientific journal articles published and referred to by other authors.  

  • Life science

    The scientific disciplines concerned with living things; included are biology, zoology, medicine, dentistry, surgery, nursing, and psychology.  

  • Sciage

    A movement of the hand used in massage resembling that used in sawing. A back-and-forth sawing motion used in massage.
