  • Schwalbe’s ring

    The thickened peripheral margin of the Descemet’s membrane of the cornea of the eye; it is formed by a circular bundle of connective tissue. Also called Schwalbe’s line.

    A test for flexibility of the lumbar spine; used to determine the presence of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) in patients with low back pain.  

  • Schnyder’s crystalline dystrophy

    An autosomal dominantly inherited corneal disease, characterized by ring-shaped deposits of cholesterol crystals in the anterior corneal stroma. The disease may cause visual impairment.  

  • Residual schizophrenia

    A schizophrenic disorder marked by continuing evidence of flat affect, impoverished or disorganized speech, and eccentric or odd behavior but showing no evidence of delusions, hallucinations, or disorganized speech.  

  • Schizophasia

    Speech marked by looseness of associations and flights of ideas.  

  • Schizencephaly

    The presence of one or more clefts running lengthwise through the cerebral hemispheres.  

  • Schizaxon

    An axon that divides in two equal, or nearly equal, branches.  

  • Schizamnion

    An amnion formed by development of a cavity in the inner cell mass.
