  • Panencephalitis

    Inflammation of the entire brain, marked by progressive deterioration of mental and motor skills.  

  • Pandiculation

    Yawning and stretching actions, as when first awakening. Stretching of the limbs and yawning, as on awakening from normal sleep.  

  • Palpebration

    Winking, especially if uncontrolled and persistent.

    Condition in which the fingers are webbed. A pathological condition in which the fingers are joined or united.

    Preparation of red blood cells separated from the liquid plasma, used in the treatment of some cases of severe anemia to restore adequate levels of erythrocytes without overloading the circulatory system with too much fluid.

    Abnormal condition, occurring among persons exposed to ozone in high-altitude aircraft, characterized by sleepiness, headache, chest pains and itchiness.

  • Oxymetazoline hydrochloride

    Over-the-counter decongestant nasal spray (trade name Afrin) used in the treatment of nasal congestion and allergy. This drug should not be used longer than three consecutive days without a physician’s specific orders to do so. Otherwise, severe nasal irritation can result.  

  • Oxaprozin

    Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent used in the once-a-day oral treatment of arthritis; side effects include stomach irritation and intestinal bleeding. A nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Oxaprozin (Daypro) is used to manage the symptoms of acute or chronic osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. Oxaprozin has pain-relieving, fever-reducing, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is available only by prescription.  

  • Oxacillin

    Antibiotic of the penicillin family that is resistant to penicillinase, the penicillin-destroying enzyme released by some bacteria, especially staphylococci. It is used to treat severe infections caused by penicillinase-producing staphylococci. Adverse effects include allergic reactions and gastrointestinal disturbances.
