Self-harm
A deliberate act by which someone injures part of their body as the result of a personal trauma. Cutting and burning are two of the most common forms of self-harm.

The regular examination of parts of your own body for signs of disease. Inspection and palpation of a body part by the patient to screen for disease.

A procedure in which a person puts a catheter through the urethra into his or her own bladder to empty out the urine.

Referring to a patient who has admitted himself or herself to hospital without being sent by a doctor.

A drug which causes a selective accumulation of serotonin in the central nervous system, and is used in the treatment of depression, e.g. fluoxetine.
