  • Licentiate

    A person who has been given a licence to practise as a doctor. An individual who practices a profession by the authority granted by a license.  

  • Licence

    An official document which allows someone to do something, e.g. one allowing a doctor to practise, a pharmacist to make and sell drugs or, in the USA, a nurse to practise.  

  • Leydig tumour

    A tumour of the Leydig cells of the testis. It often releases testosterone, which makes young boys show early signs of maturing.  

  • Lewy body

    An unusual deposit of protein in neurons in the brain. A neuronal cell with pigmented inclusion bodies. They are found in the brain in the substantia nigra and locus ceruleus, especially in Parkinson’s disease.  

  • Levonorgestrel

    An artificially produced female sex hormone, used mostly in birth control pills or capsules. An oral contraceptive; birth control pill. Together with ethinyl estradiol, levonorgestrel combines natural or synthetic estrogens and progestins that are similar to the natural sex hormones produced in a woman’s body.
