  • Least restrictive environment (LRE)

    The most normal environment possible for learning, treatment, and/or living, least restrictive alternative.  

  • Least restrictive alternative

    A concept supported by legal precedent that mandates that a mental patient must be treated in a setting that is least restrictive on his or her freedoms.  

  • Learning to learn

    Improvement in learning that occurs as a result of previous learning.  

  • Learning theory of alcoholism

    A proposition that suggests that alcoholism can be explained by the approach-avoidance reaction. People are generally attracted to pleasant situations and repelled by unpleasant situations. Alcoholic beverages reduce tensions and anxiety associated with feelings of unpleasantness. Alcohol establishes a state of euphoria is associated with reward and punishment.  

  • Learning strategies

    The skills used by the learner to facilitate learning that are generally energized by the strategies used by the teacher.  

  • Learning set

    The increased ability to solve problems, especially in discriminative learning, as a result of previous experience with problems of a similar nature.  

  • Learning resources an evaluation committee

    A committee that functions to review, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding the varieties of learning resources available; makes recommendations regarding policies for the selection and use of material and human resources; and assists in the development of the evaluation program.  

  • Learning resource center

    A specifically designated area containing a wide variety of materials and equipment for the use of students individually or in small groups for independent study. Used as techniques or strategies to enhance learning. They may be either materials or people.  

  • Learning paradigm

    In abnormal psychology, the premise that abnormal behavior is learned in the same ways as other types of behavior.  

  • Learning opportunity

    A situation in which relevant knowledge and activities are provided to stimulate the learner to become actively involved in the development of knowledge and skills.
