  • Dower

  • Douching

    Rinsing the vagina with water or a cleaning solution, douche. Rinsing the vagina with water or another solution, including vinegar and water, yogurt, and herbal teas. Most experts agree that douching is rarely necessary and encourages rather than eliminates vaginal infections because it upsets the acidity of the vagina and the bacterial balance.

    The period of time required for a total population to double in size. The length of time needed for a malignant tumor cell population to double in size.

    The time required for a cell to divide into two identical cells, mitosis.

    Duel-track. Refers to salary progression.  

  • Double standard

    Within a particular culture, the application of different standards of behavior to members of the two sexes.  

  • Double indemnity

    An insurance policy containing a clause that calls for a doubling of benefits when certain types of accidents occur, usually related to death benefits.  

  • Double hemiplegia

    Paralysis that involves both sides of the body, with one side being more greatly affected.  

  • Double fertilization

    In genetics, the fusion of the egg and the sperm, resulting in a In fertilized egg, and the fusion of the second gamete with the polar nuclei, resulting in a 3n primary endosperm nucleus.  

  • Double cross

    In genetics, a cross involving four inbred strains.
