  • Propagule

    Any vegetative or sexual structure (other than a seed) giving rise to a new plant, e.g. a broken off part that sprouts. The structure or component of a living being through which it is capable of dispersing or propagating itself.  

  • Propagation

    Multiplication by means of spores, seeds and cuttings or other vegetative means. An act of causing something to spread or multiply. Reproduction, the act of giving birth; regarding nerves, transmission of electrical impulses from one part to the other.   • Prone

    Lying flat, with the upper face downwards. Refers to the body lying in a face-down position. Referring to the arm with the palm facing downwards. Positioning of the body lying down, facing downward. Lying with the face downward; the orientation of the hand with the palm facing down.  

  • Prominulous

    Slightly prominent [obscure term].  

  • Prominent

    Jutting out beyond another part. Standing out, very visible.  

  • Proliferous

    Proliferous

    With adventitious buds on the leaves or on the flowers (rarely roots), such buds being capable of rooting and forming separate plants. Multiplying, as by formation of new tissue cells. Increasing in number; typically relating to the creation of new tissues or cells.  

  • Proliferation

    The production of off-shoots (i.e. lateral shoots for propagation). Production of vegetative shoots used for propagation or spreading abundantly. The process of proliferating. Rapid and repeated reproduction of new parts, as by cell division.  

  • Proleptic

    Growing into a lateral shoot from a dormant stage.  

  • Prolepsis

    Growth of a bud from a dormant stage into a lateral shoot [unusual term]. The return of paroxysmal attacks at successively shorter intervals. The recurrence of an episode or spasm sooner than anticipated or at increasingly shorter durations.  

  • Prolate

    (Of a globose shape) drawn out towards the poles ends like a lemon.
