  • Megasporocarp

    Growth form from which the megasporangia of Azolla are produced.  

  • Megaspore

    The larger-sized spores (as opposed to microspores) in heterosporous plants, the spores that produces female gametes. A large spore that germinates to form a female gametophyte.  

  • Megasporangium

    The sporangium in which megaspores develop. The structure containing megaspores.  

  • Megaphyll

    Leaf size class proposed by Raunkiaer (1934): larger than 164,025 mm2; Nowadays often used for all leaves that are not microphylls. A large leaf, usually used for the complex leaves of ferns and seed plants that are not microphylls.

    (Anatomical) plates of tissue (usually parenchymatous) radiating through the vascular cylinder from the pith to the cortex. In the kidney, one of many slender processes composed of one or two collecting ducts and other straight tubules that project into the cortex from the bases of renal pyramids.

    (Of hairs or anthers) attached at or near the middle.

    With many small grains, as of flour. Swollen hairs which collectively form a covering resembling cooking meal. Appearing as if covered with coarse meal; (taste) like freshly ground flour.
