  • Hydrogamous

    (Of flowers) with pollination effected by water, as in Najadaceae.  

  • Hydrochory

    Dispersal of disseminules or diaspores (i.e. seeds, fruits, other floating or water-borne parts) by water.  

  • Hydathodes

    Water-glands, organs extruding water or fluid. Glands that exude water, often seen as broadened veins, a term frequently used in ferns.  

  • Hybridisation

    Crossing between two different species. Formation of duplexes by RNA and/or DNA sequences (can be DNA-DNA, RNA-RNA, or DNA-RNA). The process of crossing between two (or more) species.  

  • Hybrid-derivative

    An individual or population derived from hybrids between two taxa.  

  • Hybrid swarm

    Population showing characters of both parent species in varying balance.  

  • Hyaline

    Almost transparent. A normal glassy appearance, such as hyaline cartilage. Tissue material that has a glass-like appearance when stained and viewed under the microscope. It occurs in a variety of tissues and diseases, particularly acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), hyaline degeneration of arterioles, and alcoholic liver disease.
