  • Prepable abutment

    An abutment that can be prepared and modified from its original manufactured design.  

  • Preoperative wax‐up

    A dental diagnostic procedure in which planned restorations are developed in wax on a diagnostic cast to determine optimal clinical and laboratory procedures necessary to achieve the desired esthetics and function. Called also diagnostic wax‐up, preoperative waxing.  

  • Preoperative record

    Any record made for the purpose of study or treatment planning.  

  • Preoperative cast

    A positive likeness of a part or parts of the oral cavity for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment planning.

    Medication given prior to an anesthetic or operation. Drugs administered to a patient before an operation (usually one in which an anesthetic is used).   • Preliminary impression

    A negative likeness constructed using a stock tray; the cast produced from this impression is mainly used in diagnosis, treatment planning, or special tray construction.  

  • Preliminary cast

    A cast produced from a preliminary impression for use as a diagnostic tool or special tray construction.  

  • Prefabricated cylinder

    A prefabricated component made of a noble alloy, which connects to a dental implant or abutment. A compatible alloy is cast to it to form a custom abutment for a cement‐retained or screw‐retained prosthesis.  

  • Prefabricated abutment

    Prosthetic component manufactured to fit an implant following a design specific to the manufacturer’s implant system dimensions.
