  • Implant dentistry

    The field of dentistry relating to implants and involving all aspects of implantology from the initial planning phase to the care and maintenance oriented toward enhancing the likelihood of a longterm successful outcome.  

  • Implant crown

    A crown or fixed dental prosthesis is not an implantable device. The prosthesis receives support and stability from the dental implant.  

  • Implant connecting bar

    Slang for a device made of metal or other materials that attaches to one or more implant abutments and serves to act as a framework.  

  • Implant configuration

    Pattern or arrangement of the positions of two or more implants placed intraorally.  

  • Implant component

    One of the principal portions of an implant system or one of the structural sections of a dental implant abutment.  

  • Implant collar

    The smooth part of a dental implant, just apical to the edge of its platform or the implant–abutment junction. Some root‐form implants do not have a collar.  

  • Implant–bone interface

    When bone substitutes are applied, newly formed host bone creates an interface between the implant surface and alveolar bone as the implant becomes osseointegrated.  

  • Implant body

    Anchorage component embedded in tissue, usually bone, by which all other components in an implant system are supported. Other components are stacked or threaded one into another.
