  • Implant basket

    Design feature of an implant that has a hollow apical portion, which allows a core of bone to remain in the preparation of the osteotomy site and fit within the confines of the hollow apical portion. Called also inverted basket or hollow cylinder.  

  • Implant‐assisted prosthesis

    Any prosthesis that is completely or partly supported by an implant or implants.  

  • Implant apex

    Portion of a root‐form dental mplant that first engages an osteotomy during its insertion. It may incorporate self‐tapping characteristics.  

  • Implant anchorage

    Use of a dental implant as support for orthodontic tooth movement or arch expansion.  

  • Implant–abutment junction (IAJ) (syn)

    Microgap. The external margin where the coronal aspect of a dental implant and its prosthetic abutment or restoration connect.

    The surface where the dental implant and the prosthetic abutment connect.  

  • Implant abutment

    A part or section of an implant or that which is connected to the implant that allows for the connection to a crown, prosthesis, or other device.

  • Impingement

    An area of displacement or compression of a tissue. Degenerative alteration in a joint in which there is excessive friction between joint tissues. This typically causes limitations in range of motion and the perception of joint pain.  

  • Impaction of tooth

    Impaction of tooth

    Developmental disturbance in which a tooth does not fully erupt into occlusion. It may be a tooth bud or fully developed tooth surrounded by bone, either partially or fully. The most frequently impacted teeth are mandibular third molars.
