  • Extrinsic coloring

    Shading from without; color applied to the exterior surface of a prosthesis.  

  • Extrinsic

    External, extraneous, as originating from or on the outside. Outside of the body. Coming from without. External, originating outside a structure.  

  • Extraosseous distractor

    Jack‐like device attached lateral to maxillary or mandibular basal bone for the purpose of creating incremental separation between jaw segments planned for distraction.  

  • Extraoral tracing

    A recording of mandibular movements made with a stylus on a recording plate that extends outside the oral cavity. A tracing made outside the oral cavity.  

  • Extraoral (external) distraction device

    A device that is located outside the oral cavity and used in distraction osteogenesis. The bone segments are usually attached via percutaneous pins connected externally to device fixation clamps.

  • Extracortical

    Outside the cortical plate of the bone or bone cortex.  

  • Extracoronal retainer

    That part of a fixed dental prosthesis uniting the abutment to the other elements of a prosthesis that surrounds all or part of the prepared crown.  

  • Extracoronal attachment

    Any prefabricated attachment for support and retention of a removable dental prosthesis. The male and female components are positioned outside the normal contour of the abutment tooth.
