  • Elements

When used in reference to dental implants, component parts of a dental implant structure such as the dental implant, dental implant abutment, and abutment screw.

  • Electrosurgery

Division of tissues by high-frequency electrical current applied locally with a metal instrument or needle. The use of electricity to destroy surface lesions. An operation in which the surgeon uses an electrical current to cut or cauterise tissue. Surgery performed using electrical devices (e.g., electrically wired needles). An operative procedure that is undertaken with an…

  • Electropolishing

The electrolytic removal of a thin layer of metal to produce a bright surface.

  • Electroplating

The process of covering the surface of an object with a thin coating of metal by means of electrolysis.

  • Electron beam therapy

The use of highenergy electrons for therapy, such as with a betatron.

  • Electron beam melting (EBM)

Additive manufacturing for metal parts. EBM is often classified as a rapid manufacturing method. The technology manufactures parts by melting metal powder layer by layer with an electron beam in a high vacuum. Unlike some metal sintering techniques, the parts are fully dense, void free, and extremely strong.

  • Electron accelerator

An instrument designed to increase the energy level of electrons in radiation therapeutics.

  • Electromyography

    Electromyography

The graphic display and record of the electrical potential of muscle(s). The measurement of the neural or electrical activity that brings about muscle contraction. The study of electric currents in active muscles. Record of muscular activity for diagnostic purposes using electrodes. A diagnostic procedure, also referred to as EMG, that records and analyzes the electrical…

  • Electromyographic biofeedback

A process using instruments to help patients learn how to control tension in muscles that are normally under automatic control. A technique employed to alleviate tension in the jaw by monitoring the patient’s endeavor to relax the musculature, while simultaneously observing a gauge. Through gradual practice, the patient acquires the ability to regulate and modulate…

  • Electrode

A solid electric conductor that allows for current to enter or leave a medium or electrolytic cell. The conductor of an electrical apparatus which touches the body and carries an electric shock. Conductor used to make electrical contact with some nonmetallic part of a surface or circuit; often used in conjunction with monitoring of the…
