Electric discharge method (EDM) (syn)
Spark erosion. A precision metal removal process, using a series of electrical sparks, to erode material from a workpiece in a liquid medium under carefully controlled conditions.
-
Elastomeric impression material
A polymer that has weak intermolecular forces with characteristics of viscosity and elasticity; compared with other materials it has a low Young’s modulus and high failure strain. The term originates from elastic polymer, which is also known as rubber.
-
Elastomer
A polymer whose glass transition temperature is below its service temperature (usually room temperature). These materials are characterized by low stiffness and extremely large elastic strains. Adj: Elastomeric.
-
Elasticity
The quality that allows a structure or material to return to its original form on removal of an external force. A property that allows a muscle to return to its original shape after it is contracted or extended. The ability of a food to return to its original shape or size after it has been…

Elastic modulus
Measure of elasticity; relative stiffness of a material within the range of elastic deformation (below the point of plastic deformation). Called also modulus of elasticity or Young modulus. Elastic modulus = Stress/Strain or E =σ/ε.

Eikonella corrodens
Gram‐negative, nonmotile, microaerophilic, rod‐shaped bacteria found primarily in subgingival plaque. Also associated with sinusitis, meningitis, pneumonia, and endocarditis.
-
EGF (abbrev)
Epidermal growth factor.
-
Effector cell
Cell that becomes active in response to stimulation. In immunology, a differentiated lymphocyte capable of mounting a specific immune response, e.g., antibody production, lymphokine production or helper, suppressor, or killer function. Called also effector lymphocyte. A cell that performs a specific function in response to a stimulus; usually used to describe cells in the immune…

EDM (abbrev)
Electric discharge method.

Edge to edge articulation
Articulation in which the opposing anterior teeth meet along the incisal edges when the teeth are in maximum intercuspation.
