  • Centric relation record

A registration of the relationship between the maxilla and mandible when the mandibular condyles are in centric relation. The record may be taken intraorally or extraorally.

  • Centric relation

The maxillomandibular relationship in which the condyles articulate with the thinnest avascular portion of their respective disks with the complex in the anterior‐superior position against the shapes of the articular eminences. This position is independent of tooth contact. This position is clinically discernible when the mandible is directed superior and anteriorly. It is restricted to…

  • Centric range

The physical distance that exists between centric relation and maximum intercuspation as viewed in the horizontal and sagittal planes.

  • Centric prematurity

An occlusal contact or interference that occurs before a balanced and stable jaw‐to‐jaw relationship is reached in centric occlusion or centric relation.

  • Centric position

The position of the mandible in either centric occlusion or centric relation. The most posterior position of the mandible in relation to the maxilla.

  • Centric occlusion

The maximum balanced intercuspation of maxillary and mandibular teeth; may or may not coincide with centric relation. Positional relationship of occluding tooth surfaces when the mandible is in centric relation. The coincidence of centric occlusion and centric relation is desirable when creating an occlusion, but the maximal intercuspal relationship may not always exist. (Acquired centric…

  • Centric

Located in or at a center. Oriented around or directed toward a center.

  • Central bearing tracing device

    Central bearing tracing device

A device that is used to balance occlusal forces when measuring maxillomandibular jaw relationships or to map the full envelope of mandibular movement. It consists of a plate attached to a dental arch and a tracking device that records movement.

  • Central bearing tracing

The recorded path of motion on the horizontal plate of the central bearing tracing device.

  • Central bearing point

The precise location of contact for a central bearing device.
