  • Central bearing

A device that applies a single point force that is applied as centrally as possible at the center of support between the maxillary and mandibular jaws. It distributes the closing forces evenly throughout the supporting structures when recording maxillomandibular jaw relationships. It is also used to detect errors in occlusion.

  • Center of ridge

The midline of the residual ridge in a buccolingual dimension, as viewed from the occlusal aspect.

  • Cementum fracture

The tearing or splintering of the cementum from the tooth’s root surface. Superficial disruptions of a tooth root that result in the displacement of cementum fragments.

  • Cementum

The thin, calcified tissue of ectomesenchymal origin covering the roots of teeth in which embedded collagen fibers attach the teeth to the alveolus. Calcified tissue covering the root and neck of the tooth. A layer of thick hard material which covers the roots of teeth. Layer of specialized tissue (modified bone) in a tooth, covering…

  • Cement‐retained

The use of dental cement for the retention of a prosthesis to an abutment, or transmucosal portion of a one‐piece dental implant.

  • Cementoid

The uncalcified surface layer of cementum including incorporated connective tissue fibers.

  • Cementogenesis

The creation or development of cementum. The development of cementum on the root dentin of a tooth.

  • Cementoenamel junction

The meeting point on any tooth between the root cementum and the crown enamel. The zone where the cementum and enamel meet at the cervical section of the tooth. The line around the tooth that marks the boundary between the crown and root of the tooth; the interface between enamel and cementum.

  • Cementodentinal junction

The area of union of the dentin and cementum. The interface of dentin and cementum of the tooth.

  • Cementation

The process of attaching parts by means of cement. Attaching a restoration to natural teeth by means of a cement (GPT‐4). The use of a plastic or moldable substance to seal joints and cement or join substances together.
