  • Buttressing b

Excessive bone formation occurring on the marginal alveolar bone which is theorized to occur as a result of traumatogenic occlusion.

  • Bundle b

Type of alveolar bone, so called because of the continuation into it of the principal (Sharpey’s) fibers of the periodontal ligament.

  • Basal b

Bone of the mandible or maxilla, excluding the alveolar bone.

  • Alveolar b. proper

Compact bone that composes the alveolus (tooth socket). Also known as the lamina dura or cribriform plate, the fibers of the periodontal ligament insert into it.

  • Alveolar bone

Bony portion of the mandible or maxilla in which the roots of the teeth are held by periodontal ligament fibers. Alveolar bone is formed during tooth development and eruption. Spongy part of jaw bone that supports the teeth. Part of the jawbone to which the teeth are attached. The bony tissue or process of the…

The hard form of connective tissue that constitutes most of the skeleton in most vertebrates. Calcified connective tissue. One of the calcified pieces…

  • Bonding agent

Joining together securely with an adhesive substance such as cement or glue. The procedure of using an adhesive, cementing material, or fusible ingredient to combine, unite, or strengthen. An adhesive technique in dentistry involving conditioning of enamel and/or dentin so as to create tags in the tooth structure for mechanical retention of restorative material. The…

  • Bond strength

The force required to break a bonded assembly with failure occurring in or near the adhesive/adherens interface.
