Qigong

A variety of traditional Chinese practices and movements that can help manage arthritis, back pain, and stress.

Ancient Chinese system of healing; a form of ENERGY MEDICINE. Qigong, pronounced “chee gung,” uses breathing, meditation, visualization, and repetitive physical exercises to cleanse and strengthen the body. Qigong literally means “working with energy.” It is an element of Chinese medicine that promotes health by strengthening the flow of qi, or vital energy. The exercises associated with qigong are designed to teach improved breathing and to positively affect heart rate and circulation of the blood. Qigong exercises involve relaxation, concentration, and controlled breathing. The martial arts tai chi and kung fu developed from qigong.

A component of traditional Chinese medicine that combines movement, meditation, and regulation of breathing to enhance the flow of qi (an ancient term given to what is believed to be vital energy) in the body, improve blood circulation, and enhance immune function.

This is a blend of various activities that incorporate exercises, contemplation, and controlled breathing techniques. The purpose behind this is to facilitate the passage of vital energy throughout the body, enhance the circulatory system’s performance, and augment the body’s ability to resist illnesses.
