Quadrant

One of the four sections into which the dental arches can be divided, as determined by an imaginary midline between the central incisors, dividing each dental arch into two halves.

One-fourth of a circle; anatomically, one of four regions divided equally for descriptive and diagnostic purposes. The four quadrants of the abdomen are formed by mentally drawing intersecting perpendicular lines through the navel (umbilicus). These lines form the right upper, left upper, right lower, left lower quadrants. The pain from appendicitis often localizes in the right lower quadrant while gallbladder pain is typically in the right upper quadrant.
