Reflex cough

A cough due to irritation from the middle ear, pharynx, stomach, or intestine. It may occur singly or coupled, or may be hacking. Stimulation of Arnold’s nerve of the ear can cause it.


A cough triggered by irritation originating from a distant part of the body, such as ear syringing, stomach irritation, indigestion, or conditions affecting the vagina or cervix.
