Rest jaw relation

The habitual postural jaw relation when the head is in an upright position and the condyles are in neutral, unstrained positions in the glenoid fossae.

An obsolete term for the relationship of the mandible to the maxilla when the patient is in an upright relaxed position and proper physiologic interocclusal distance exists between the teeth as the condyles are resting in the glenoid fossae.
