Retinoic acid

An antiacne skin cream. Retinoic acid, also known as tretinoin (Retin-A), is a derivative of vitamin A that prevents the spread of acne by preventing the formation of pimples. It is applied to the skin and is available as a cream, a gel, and a liquid. Retinoic acid should not be taken or used by pregnant women because the drug can cause birth defects in fetuses.


A group of compounds that are structurally related to retinol and function like vitamin A. Retinoids are used in the treatment of various skin diseases and digestive ailments.


A metabolite of vitamin A used in the treatment of cystic acne.
