Slender woven or twisted string‐like fabric (usually cotton or similar material) used to retract gingival or mucosal tissues for the exposure of prepared tooth or abutment margins prior to impression making. It is usually impregnated with an appropriate substance to stiffen the cord and provide vasoconstriction.
