Ribavirin

A synthetic drug which helps to prevent the synthesis of viral DNA and RNA, used in the treatment of viral diseases.


Inhaled antiviral agent, which may be used in the treatment of serious respiratory syncytial virus infection. Adverse reactions include exacerbation of pulmonary status and cardiac arrest.


One type of antiviral drug. Ribavirin (Rebetron, Virazole) is used to treat severe viral pneumonia in infants and young children. It is given by oral inhalation and breathed in as a fine mist by the child. Ribavirin is sprayed into a hood, tent, or face mask by a special machine called a nebulizer.


Also known as tribavirin, this drug inhibits a wide variety of DNA and RNA viruses. It is administered by inhalation to treat severe bronchiolitis caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in infants who also have congenital heart disease. It is not used in uncomplicated bronchiolitis as its benefits are arguable in that circumstance: the babies are likely to recover without treatment.


Also known as tribavirin, Ribavirin is an antiviral medication utilized for treating severe bronchiolitis in children, which is caused by the respiratory syncytial virus. The drug is generally administered either through aerosol inhalation or by using a nebulizer. Side effects are infrequently observed.
