The part of a tooth that is typically covered by cementum and is found in the more apical portion. Attached to it is usually a periodontal ligament that allows for connection to the adjacent bone.

A bundle of nerve fibers at its emergence from the spinal cord. The 31 pairs of spinal nerves have two roots on each side, an anterior root containing motor nerve fibers and a posterior root containing sensory fibers. The roots merge outside the cord to form mixed nerves.


A section of an organ, like a tooth or hair, that’s anchored within the tissues. The anterior root refers to a collection of nerve fibers that originate from the front side of the spinal cord, joining to create a spinal nerve. It’s also known as the motor root.
