Temporal bone

One of the bones which form the sides and base of the cranium.


One of a pair of skull bones, forming the lower part of the cranium (skull) and containing cavities associated with the ear.


Segment of the cranium located on the sides of the head, anterior to the ears.


Either of a pair of bones of the cranium. The squamous portion forms part of the side of the cranium. The petrous part contributes to the base of the skull and contains the middle and inner ears. Below it are the mastoid process, styloid process, and zygomatic process.


A bone on both sides of the skull at its base. It is composed of squamous, mastoid, and petrous portions, the latter enclosing the receptors for hearing and equilibrium.
