Thoracoplasty

A surgical operation to cut through the ribs to allow the lungs to collapse, formerly a treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis.

Surgical extraction of portions of all the ribs on one side, done to facilitate the collapse of both the chest wall and the underlying lung, in order to seal cavities in the lung. This procedure is also known as pleuropneumolysis.
