Throat

(Of tubular flowers) part where the corolla-tube widens into the mouth, the apical part of the corolla tube immediately below the mouth.

The opening or orifice of a fused corolla or calyx, or the somewhat expanded part between the proper tube and the limb; in grasses, the upper margins of the sheath.

The opening of a tubular corolla, a little below the ring where the limb joins the tube.

The inside part of a trumpet or tube-shaped flower, often carrying, as in foxgloves and gloxinias, a different pattern or color to guide insects.

The top part of the tube which goes down from the mouth to the stomach.

The front part of the neck below the chin.

The inside part of a trumpet- or tube-shaped flower, often displaying, as in foxgloves and gloxinias, a different pattern or color to guide insects.

The pharynx; muscular, membrane- lined passage that carries air from the nose to the trachea (windpipe) and food from the mouth to the esophagus. The throat is subdivided into the nasopharynx, (which lies above the soft palate), the oropharynx (between the soft palate and larynx), and laryngopharynx (which is behind the larynx and is continuous with the esophagus).

In popular language, this term is applied indifferently to the region in front of the neck, to the larynx or organ of voice, and to the cavity at the back of the mouth. The correct use of the word denotes the pharynx or cavity into which the nose, mouth, gullet, and larynx all open.

A commonly used expression for the pharynx. This term can also occasionally indicate the anterior part of the neck.

The pharynx, including the fauces, which are the upper part of the throat, as well as the anterior region of the neck.
