Thyroid scan

Diagnostic nuclear scan in which a radioactive substance is injected and uptake by the thyroid gland is measured using a gamma camera.

An imaging procedure done after injecting a radioactive substance into a vein, to determine the thyroid’s size, shape, location, and function, or any abnormality such as cancer.

A diagnostic procedure that utilizes the uptake of radioactive iodine-131 (1311) to create a mapping of the thyroid gland on x-ray film. This scan aims to identify and record the presence of hot or cold nodules. Cold nodules generally indicate malignancy, while hot nodules are typically benign.
