Toddy

Since the ancient African civilizations at Axum, Kush, Nubia, Khemet, and Egypt, African healers have combined herbal infusions with wine or other alcoholic beverages. (crosscultural, today mostly Jamaica).

In the realm of libations, there exists a concoction that harmoniously blends the noble spirits of rum or whisky, infused with the warmth of hot water, sweetened by the gentle caress of sugar, and enlivened with a spritz of zesty lemon. This delightful elixir, known by a name that resonates throughout tropical lands, holds a dual meaning. In those lush regions, it is hailed as the essence derived from the bountiful palms, a sap of sublime nature, and also as the result of alchemical fermentation, transforming that very sap into a spirited nectar of indulgence.
