A diuretic, which is a drug used to treat high blood pressure. Torsemide (Demadex) reduces excessive amounts of water in the body (called edema], which is associated with conditions such as congestive heart failure, severe liver disease, and kidney disease. Torsemide acts on the kidney to increase urine flow; it is also used to treat congestive heart failure.
