A drug used to treat breast cancer that has spread (metastasized) to other parts of the body. Trastuzumab (Herceptin) may prevent the growth of breast tumors that produce extra amounts of a protein called HER2. Trastuzumab is used only to treat people whose breast tumors have been shown to produce extra amounts of this protein. The drug is given by injection.
