Trichophyton

A fungus which affects the skin, hair and nails.


A genus of fungi, parasitic to man, that frequently infect the skin, nails, and hair and cause favus and ringworm.


A genus of parasitic fungi that lives in or on the skin or its appendages (hair and nails) and is the cause of various dermatomycoses and ringworm infections. Species that produce spores arranged in rows on the outside of the hair are designated ectothrix; if spores are within the hair, endothrix.


A group of fungi capable of inducing hair, skin, and nail diseases in humans. Conditions such as athlete’s foot and scalp ringworm are prevalent ailments caused by various species within the Trichophyton genus.
