Trimeprazine

An antihistamine used to relieve the itching caused by eczema and various skin rashes, including allergic skin rashes caused by poison ivy.


An antihistamine drug (a phenothiazine derivative) that also possesses sedative properties. Given by mouth, it is mainly used in the treatment of pruritus (itching) and as a preoperative medication, especially in children. Common side-effects include drowsiness, dizziness, dryness of mouth, muscular tremor and incoordination, and confusion.
