Prickly Pear Facts

Prickly pear is a shrubs or a small tree which is found growing in hammocks, fields, sandy soils at low altitudes and on mountain slopes in its native range. All have flat, fleshy pads that look like large leaves. The pads are actually modified branches or stems that serve several functions — water storage, photosynthesis and flower production.
