  • Ovo vegetarian diet

    A vegetarian diet that permits the use of eggs.  

  • Ovolactovegetarianism

    A diet that excludes the ingestion of all meats but that does allow for the consumption of eggs and dairy products. An individual who includes fruits, milk, vegetables, milk products, eggs, and cheese in the diet but not meat.  

  • Ovist

    A preformationist who believed that the egg rather than the sperm carried the miniature but complete organism.  

  • Oviduct

    The tube that carries the ova from the ovary to the uterus.  

  • Overtone

    In a complex tone, any of the tones of higher pitch. The frequencies of the multiples of those of the fundamental tone.  

  • Overt behavior

    Activities that can be observed by an outsider.  

  • Oversteer

    Pertaining to the handling characteristics of a vehicle that has a center of gravity behind the center of the car, making it necessary to steer continuously during a turn as the rear tires must develop more drift angle than the front tires.  

  • Overshadowing

    An effect produced when two conditioned stimuli are both presented at the same time with the unconditioned stimulus. When one conditioned stimulus is more intense than the other, it tends to overshadow the other and will prevent the formation of an association between the second and the unconditioned stimulus.  

  • Overriding aorta

    A condition in which the aorta takes blood from the right ventricle as well as from the left ventricle.  

  • Overprotection

    Shielding a child to the extent that he or she becomes overly dependent upon the parent or other adult. Limitation of the behavior or autonomy of another person due to excessive concern for that person’s safety or ability to function independently.
