  • Pseudopapilledema

    Elevation of the optic nerve head resembling edema, caused by elevated intracranial pressure (papilledema). It may be congenital or due to optic nerve head drusen.  

  • Pseudonucleolus

    The false nucleolus or karyosome.  

  • Pseudo-nitzschia australis

    A species of marine diatom that produces domoic acid, a neurotoxic amino acid. Shellfish and fish that feed on the diatom are toxic to sea mammals and humans.  

  • Pseudoneuroma

    A mass of interlacing, coiled fibers, cells of Schwann, and fibrous tissue forming a mass at the end of an amputation stump. Also called amputation or traumatic neuroma, this is not a true neuroma.  

  • Pseudoneoplasm

    A false or phantom tumor; a temporary swelling, usually of an inflammatory nature, that simulates a tumor.  

  • Pseudomyxoma peritonei

    A type of tumor that develops in the peritoneum from implantation metastases resulting from rupture of ovarian cystadenoma or cells escaping during surgical removal. Numerous papillomas develop, attached to the abdominal wall and intestine, and the peritoneal cavity becomes filled with mucus-like fluid.   • Pseudomyopia

    A condition in which defective vision causes persons to hold objects close in order to see them, even though myopia is not present.  

  • Pseudomonas oryzihabitans

    A gram-negative rod that can cause health care- related infections, especially in catheterized, immunosuppressed, or critically ill patients. It was formerly known as Flavimonas oryzihabitans.  

  • Mucoid pseudomonas aeruginosa

    A variant of P. aeruginosa that resists both phagocytosis and antibiotic treatment by secreting a slimy protective coating (alginate slime). It is more virulent than nonmucoid-secreting forms of P. aeruginosa and often colonizes patients with bronchiectasis or cystic fibrosis.  

  • Pseudomenstruation of the newborn

    Withdrawal bleeding after birth, a scant vaginal discharge that reflects the physiological response of some female infants to an exposure to high levels of maternal hormones in utero. A memory disturbance in which the patient remembers that which never occurred.
