Spicy Sausage and Cabbage Skillet Recipe

Big 15 ketogenic dietSpicy sausage and cabbage is such a delicious combination, and this recipe is a winner because it’s a one pot dinner. My favorite recipes tend to be those cooked in cast-iron skillets that you sauté on the stove and then finish in the oven, giving you time to clean up the kitchen a bit before serving, so when it’s time to eat you can just enjoy your food and your company.

    • Yield: 4 Servings
    • Preparation Time: 5 Minutes
    • Cooking Time: 35 Minutes

    Ingredients

    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1 small white onion, diced
    • 1 garlic clove, minced
    • 1 pound hot Italian sausage, casings removed
    • 1 head cabbage, chopped
    • Salt
    • Freshly ground black pepper
    • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
    How to Make It
    1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
    2. In a large cast-iron skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil.
    3. Add the onion and garlic. Sauté for 5 to 7 minutes until the onion is softened and translucent.
    4. Add the sausage and cook for 7 to 10 minutes or until browned. Remove from the heat, slice the sausage, and return it to the skillet.
    5. Add the cabbage and season with salt and pepper.
    6. Top with the provolone and transfer the skillet to the oven. Bake for 20 minutes or until the cheese melts. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 6 days.
