Going through life with depleted energy reserves can prove tremendously challenging. Feeling perpetually drained can have an adverse impact on your job performance, your home life and your personal relations, as well as many other aspects of your life. So, if low energy reserves have been a consistent problem, you should start looking for ways to correct the issue. Anyone in need of a lasting energy boost would do well to consider the following pointers.

Prioritize Proper Rest

There’s little wonder as to why many of us consistently fail to get enough sleep. Between job stress, personal obligations and family responsibilities, carving out the time for eight solid hours of slumber can often seem like an impossibility. However, by failing to prioritize proper rest, we may be imposing a variety of undesirable – and unnecessary – consequences on ourselves. For example, insufficient slumber can result in a lack of focus and attentiveness, which can prove harmful to one’s job performance. Additionally, failing to get enough sleep can leave you with a negative outlook, which can compound such mental health issues as anxiety and depression.

A lack of proper slumber can also contribute to waning energy reserves. So, if you can’t remember the last time you had a good night’s sleep, your depleted energy supplies shouldn’t come as much of a shock. Since sleep helps refresh your mind and body and prepare you for the challenges of the waking world, it is imperative that you make it a priority – especially if your energy supplies are on the wane.

Fortunately, getting your sleep schedule in order is much easier than you may think. To start with, you’ll need to assign yourself a bedtime – ideally, one that allows for at least seven to eight hours of slumber. If you haven’t had an assigned bedtime since you were a child, this may be a bit of an adjustment, but if you stick with it, your internal clock should adjust within a matter of weeks. Should you find that you have trouble falling asleep, engage in relaxing activities in the leadup to bedtime, as this will prime your brain and body for slumber. Journaling, meditation, deep breathing exercise and reading are just a handful of the activities that will leave you relaxed and in the proper mindset for sleep.

To help your internal clock adjust even faster, make an effort to stick to your new sleep schedule on weekends, as well as weekdays. However, once you’ve become successfully acclimated, the occasional deviation shouldn’t prove terribly problematic.

Consult Your Physician

In many cases, low energy is easily treated. In fact, the problem may even go away on its own. However, if you’re been dealing with fatigue that’s persisted for two weeks or more, call your doctor and schedule an appointment. Your physician should be able to identify the root cause(s) of your low energy and recommend an appropriate course of treatment. Furthermore, if the problem is discovered to be tied to something more serious, getting an early diagnosis can prove extremely helpful.

Depending on the root cause(s) of the issue and the level of your fatigue, your doctor may recommend certain medications and/or supplements. Additionally, when working out a treatment plan, take care to inquire about the benefits of reishi mushroom.

Get Your Stress Under Control

Although stress is something that all of us deal with at some point, it can take control of every area of your life if left unchecked. Not only can excessive stress make it difficult to maintain important relationships, tackle your everyday responsibilities and do your job effectively, it can quickly deplete your energy reserves. Uncontrolled stress and the emotions that stem therefrom eat up a tremendous amount of energy, so if you’re currently contending with massive amounts of stress, it may be to blame for your energy issues.

Unfortunately, there’s no “one size fits all” solution for controlling stress. Furthermore, depending on the type of stress you’re dealing with and its root cause(s), professional mental health assistance may be required. When seeking out a good counselor or therapist, look for someone who has ample experience treating out-of-control stress.

Engaging in relaxing pastimes – like the ones mentioned in the previous section – can also help keep stress levels in check. Meditation and deep breathing exercises can prove particularly calming during periods of overwhelming stress.

Exercise Consistently

Since exercise tends to wear people out, it’s easy to see why you might not associate it with boosting energy. However, regular exercise has the power to build stamina and increase energy levels, so if you’ve never worked out on a regular basis, this may be the cause – or one of the causes – of your depleted energy. As such, if your current fitness regimen is minimal to nonexistent, making some changes may help solve your energy issue.

Of course, this isn’t to say that you’ll need to work out to the point of total exhaustion. If you’re not keen on strenuous workouts, aim to get at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity per day. For example, beginning or ending your day with a half-hour walk can be a great way to fulfill this goal. Still, if you’re looking to meet certain weight-loss goals or build muscle mass, you may need to increase the intensity and/or duration of your workouts. If you’ve been out of the fitness game for a long while – or never really started it to begin with – try to start small instead of immediately committing to a physically demanding workout regimen, as your body needs time to adjust.

Perpetually depleted energy reserves are liable to turn your life into a tiring chore. In the absence of sufficient energy, simply getting through your daily routine can seem like a massive feat. So, if you’re currently contending with low energy levels, it’s in your best interest to tackle the problem sooner rather than later. Fortunately, waning energy is a fairly common – and easily-remedied – problem. This means that the longer you wait to address the issue, the more difficulties it’s likely to present. Anyone looking to enhance their energy levels in a timely and low-stress manner would be wise to consider the options outlined above.
