Benefits of Tomatoes for Your Skin and Hair

We all know these fruits (although commonly known as veggies) are delicious in bruschettas, pizza, pasta or salads, but how many of you actually know their benefits outside the cuisine sector? Tomatoes represent the secret ingredient in many cosmetic products, and here are some of the reasons why.

    Diminish the appearance of pores

Tomatoes are rich in vitamin C and potassium, extremely important ingredients that help your skin glow, feel young, and look perfect. Thanks to their astringent properties, tomatoes can be used to fight a series of oily-skin problems, and this includes large pores, whiteheads, blackheads, and excess sebum.

To minimize the appearance of pores and make your skin look perfect, simply use a tomato slicer to cut this fruit in half and rub it all over the face, letting the juice penetrate the skin and the pores. Leave it for about 15 minutes and then simply rinse off with lukewarm water.

Thanks to the natural astringent properties of the tomatoes, this 100% natural remedy can be used as often as you consider fit and can help both adults and teenagers fight against large pores.

    Reduce oiliness

Another reason why you should integrate this food in your daily healthcare routine is that it helps restore the skin’s natural balance, removing excess oils for people who are dealing with combination and oily complexions.

All you have to do is rub a raw sliced tomato all over your skin and allow it to sit for about 10 minutes. After you wash it off with water, you can apply your regular moisturizing cream, makeup base or any other skincare products.

Protect the skin against the harmful effects of the sun and reduce sunburns

Tomatoes are not only rich in Vitamin C but also in Vitamin A, meaning they can repair the damage of free radicals and the harmful effects of prolonged sun exposure. The high lycopene amounts contained by these fruits will promote a healthy, glowing skin and will even reduce sunburns and allow for uniform tanning.

In order to benefit from all these properties, you have to mix a few teaspoons with buttermilk and apply the mixture evenly on the skin. Allow it to enter the skin and you will instantly feel its positive effects. The concoction is perfect for sunburn rashes as it cools down the skin, reducing the redness and the feeling of heat.

    Gently exfoliate the skin

There are countless recipes of natural exfoliators but some of them are complicated to make and require plenty of ingredients. One simple way to remove all traces of impurities, dirt, oil, and makeup from your skin is to use the active nutrients from the tomatoes and create a gentle exfoliator.

For this, you are going to need two whole lemons with peels, two cubes of ice, two tomatoes, and about 20 mint leaves. Put them all in a blender and add five tablespoons of sugar to the mixture. Apply this homemade scrub on your neck, hands, and face, and allow it to sit on the skin until the sugar granules melt.

You can use the remedy two-three times a week to cleanse, detan, and gently exfoliate your skin, stimulating its natural regeneration.

    Eliminate blemishes

Another problem that most people with oily and combination complexions deal with is blemishes. The topical application of tomatoes has proved effective in the treatment of pimples and blemishes thanks to the skin-lightening and astringent properties of these fruits.

Mix two teaspoons of tomato pulp with a teaspoon of regular yogurt and one of oatmeal until you create a paste. Gently dab a small amount of the product on the affected area and allow it to dry for about 15-20 minutes. Rinse off with water and enjoy a clearer-looking skin.
